Pick the race first, then fly into the airport closest to the track, book a base near it, and buy tickets only from the official promoter. As of October 19, 2026 the next four races in Mexico use two airports: Mexico City (MEX) for F1, NASCAR and Formula E, and Los Cabos (SJD) for the Baja 1000.

Quick Summary

  • Step 1: pick the race and lock in the dates from the official schedule
  • Step 2: fly into the nearest airport: MEX or SJD
  • Step 3: stay where the transfer to the track is short
  • Step 4: buy tickets only from the promoter’s own site
  • Step 5: check transport, bags and safety for that venue before you go

How do you choose which race to go to?

Start with what you want out of the weekend. The F1 Grand Prix is the big stadium event, with grandstands, about 400,000 fans across three days and a fixed seat. The Baja 1000 is the opposite: no tickets and no grandstand, you watch from the roadside along a course that runs hundreds of miles. NASCAR Mexico and Formula E are smaller weekends at the same Mexico City circuit. If you’re torn, our which Mexican race should I go to guide compares the four big ones side by side.

Which airport should you fly into?

The one nearest the venue, because ground transport is where trips go wrong. Mexico City’s airport is about 15 minutes by car from Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, or roughly 17 minutes by Metro on Lines 5 and 9. For the Baja 1000, Los Cabos International is about 8 miles from San José del Cabo, where the race starts and finishes on Avenida Centenario. One catch there: Uber can’t pick up arriving passengers at SJD, so book a taxi, shuttle or transfer; see getting around Los Cabos.

Where should you stay for a race in Mexico?

  • Mexico City (F1, NASCAR, Formula E): Roma Norte or Condesa are walkable and on Metro Line 9 to the circuit; the airport area is the shortest transfer. There’s no public parking at the track, so don’t plan to drive. Details in where to stay for the Mexico City GP.
  • Baja 1000: San José del Cabo for the old town and a short airport run, Cabo San Lucas for nightlife. See the Baja 1000 Los Cabos travel guide.

These base picks are our recommendations, not official advice.

Where do you buy race tickets safely?

From the promoter’s own site, linked in the table above, or the seller it names there. Unofficial resellers and social-media sellers carry a real risk of fake tickets. For the F1 race, compare stands and prices in our grandstand guide before you buy. Watching the Baja 1000 from the roadside is free, so plan around the spectator safety rules and live tracking instead.

What does a race trip to Mexico cost?

It depends mostly on tickets and flights. Our race trip cost calculator adds up tickets, flights, lodging, transport and food, with presets for the Mexico City GP and the Baja 1000. For F1 there’s also a full Mexico City GP budget breakdown.
