Why did the Baja 1000 move to Los Cabos?
For its 59th running, the SCORE Baja 1000 moves its start and finish from Ensenada to Los Cabos, at the southern tip of the peninsula. SCORE’s original announcement named the host as “Los Cabos, Baja California Sur”, and its official 2026 schedule (updated June 30, 2026) lists San José del Cabo as the host town. SCORE has since named Avenida Centenario in San José del Cabo for the start line, the finish and both days of tech inspection and contingency; the awards venue is still pending. For US fans, the logistics get easier: fly nonstop into Los Cabos (SJD) instead of driving the length of Baja.

The municipality of Los Cabos includes two towns about 20 miles apart. San José del Cabo, next to the airport, has the colonial old town. Cabo San Lucas has the marina and the nightlife. Between them runs the Tourist Corridor of resorts and golf courses. The race starts and finishes on Avenida Centenario in San José del Cabo, a short walk from the Sea of Cortez.
